| Customer Reviews: Don't travel without it. April 3, 2010 Mike (Colorado) I've searched for the best pocket knife for traveling, and so far, this sweet little knife is it. (I believe it is also recommended by Europe travel guru Rick Steves.) Many of my travel meals come from the grocery store; I enjoy them picknick style on the train or ferry or at lovely spots like a park or abandoned castle or on a beach. I need this knife --especially in Europe -- to slice cheeses, meats, and fruit for lunch and the corkscrew to open the accompanying bottle of wine. The can opener gets me into the sardines, etc. Scissors are indespensible for opening various packages.
Everybody likes to complain about the shortcomings of their multi-tool, and this one could benefit from a good Phillips-head screwdriver, but this is a minor quibble. The knife even has a key-chain loop with short chain that I attach to a small compass that helps me (along with a map) to navigate unfamiliar cities.
I don't like to check baggage (it can get lost), but unfortunately I can no longer carry this knife through airline security, so I slip it into a small, lightweight collapsable duffel that I keep for this purpose and send through the checked baggage system. The duffel also holds a small pair of needle-nose pliers and any bottles of liquid exceeding 3 ounces along with crumpled up newspaper to fill out the volume of the bag to keep the airline people happy. When I arrive at my destination, the knife goes in my pocket and the duffel goes in my backpack/suitcase until it's time to return home...at which time the duffel can also be helpful for carrying miscellaneous items acquired during the trip.
If memory serves, the knife has not been an issue when boarding European trains, Greek ferries, German riverboats, and the Chunnel train.
