About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

I use it once in a while, seems to be holding up okay. I'd give it 5 stars, but it just doesn't seem as quality as I'd expected.

This knife is only 3 1/2" long as it say in the advertisement--that I should have read closer. It is a boys knife not built for a man. The blades are all very short and for a man do not have enough length to do very much that is useful other than show somebody a cool small knife. Since it is so small and I have large hands it is extremely difficult to open most of the tools. I had to use a screwdriver to even get some of the blades to open up since they are so tightly packed, there is very little surface area to grasp some blades and all of the blades are very tight since it is so small. It would be an excellent knife for a boyscout, and should be called a Huntscout and not a Huntsman.

I purchased this for my husband. He had a small red one for years that was similar (I thought) to this one, but it was confiscated by airline security in their heyday post 9/11 like he was going to "gadget" someone to death.....but I digress. Not knowing much about these things, I thought it was the same as he had before, but this one is much bigger, heavier and bulkier...not as easily carried in dress pants pockets. He kept it, but I think he will put it in the console of his car or something. Of course I can't really give it a bad review for being bigger than I thought, so all in all it is very nice, works well, was priced very well, was shipped on time and received in good condition. Very nice item that I highly recommend unless you're looking for something smaller to carry in your pocket.

I ordered three of these for my two grown sons and my son in law. We put them to use on Christmas day several times. There are many knives available, of course, but these absolutely reek of quality. Nice size and handy to carry.
