Product Description Constructed of 440A stainless steel, Kershaw's Ken Onion Black Leek folding knife features a unique three-inch black blade and handle. Kershaw's assisted opening system, SpeedSafe, assists the user to smoothly open the knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud or Index-Open system. SpeedSafe's torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by accident. In order to open the knife, the user must apply manual pressure to the thumb stud to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position, ready for use. When closed, this 3.1-ounce Kershaw knife measures four inches long. Amazing August 31, 2010 Grewe02 One of the best knives I've owned. Doesn't keep an edge very long, but that's why they make sharpening stones. The physical strength and operation of this knife is amazing. Flicks open with one finger, and closes with one hand instead of two, like some other knives "made on a bench." Highly recommended!!!!
awesome knife June 30, 2010 JB (MI, USA) Excellent knife overall.
-came with a decently sharp blade (with one of the sharpest points I've seen)
-blade is almost straight but still nice, good size for pockets
-the coating has faired pretty well even with use
-the finger "nub" is the perfect size so it doesn't stick out very much
-the opening is very smooth and it's fast, A+
-overall design fits comfortably in your hand
5 out of 5, this knife is highly recommended...especially when it is on sale
One "pungent" little leek! June 17, 2010 John Morgan (Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA) I've been using this little folder for just over a month now, and I'm very pleased with my purchase. To put it mildly! First, I got it from Amazon on sale for a ridiculously low price, and would have felt I'd gotten my money's worth if I'd spent quite a bit more than I did. I'd tell you what the sale price was, but as the operative word here is "was," I don't want to make you feel bad.
The knife is very easy to carry in a jeans pocket, and the reversable pocket clip just adds to the equation. The thumb studs are more for appearance sake than use, in my opinion. VERY difficult to open the blade using a stud, even with practice. However, a simple flick of the topside lever and SNICK!, the blade's open in a flash. One word of caution: if you're not used to handling EXTREMELY sharp knives, be very careful of how you treat this knife. In fact, you'd better be careful even if you are. This little puppy is literally sharper than the razor I shave with every morning. Seriously. The slightest mis-use and Hey, it's off to the ER for you!
Others have commented that the safety is difficult to operate, but I don't find that to be the case at all. A quick, short push to the front and it's locked, ditto to the rear and it's unlocked. Don't see the difficutly there, although to be fair I imagine it would be difficult if you're wearing gloves. So move down South like me and you don't NEED gloves. See, problem solved!
I've already put the blade to some fairly hard work, such as cutting cardboard, carving hard wood (oak and hickory), etc, etc, and it's still shaving-sharp. And that wicked, wicked little point on this blade! I think it might be the sharpest point I've ever had on a blade. One caveat: this blade, by design, is quite thin (hence the super-sharp point), so if you abuse it by doing silly stuff like throwing it, stabbing it into the ground, etc, I imagine you'll have a bad result pretty quickly. Use it like it's meant to be used however, and all should be just fine.
Bottom line: if I lost this knife today, I'd order another one immediately. That's my "acid test" for how well I like any blade, and this one passes with flying colors. Well, ok, it's black so there's not much in the way of colors TO fly...
Buy one, you won't be sorry.
